Pentaploids are obtained from the crosses between tetraploids & hexaploids. Raised from the crosses of sweet potato & I. littoralis and sweet potato tetraploid sweet potato. Chromosome number is 2n=5x=75.The pentaploid 5x=45 was found to be significantly superior to other hybrids and gave 2 to 2 1/2 times more yield than the control.
