CTCRI-CTCRI, Thiruvananthapuram, inaugurated its Sustainability Shop – Reuse Bazaar on 7 October 2026. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. K. Vasuki, IAS, Secretary to the Hon’ble Governor of Keralam, in the presence of Dr. G. Byju, Director, ICAR-CTCRI. Dr. P. Murugesan, Principal Scientist and Chairman, Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2026, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of effective utilisation of resources and sustainable practices. A video presentation on the activities undertaken during Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2026 (17 September–2 October) was screened for the participants. In his presidential address, Dr. G. Byju highlighted best practices such as cleanliness drives, e-waste management, composting, tree planting, waste-to-wealth initiatives and climate change mitigation measures.
The Sustainability Shop – Reuse Bazaar, a new initiative conceived by the Director, aims to promote the reuse of useful materials, resource conservation and waste reduction. In her inaugural address, Dr. K. Vasuki advocated sustainable living, responsible consumption and transforming waste into wealth. She also emphasised the relevance of yoga and the wisdom of the Upanishads in promoting a balanced and sustainable lifestyle. She distributed prizes and certificates to schoolchildren, staff and students who participated in the slogan-writing and other competitions on the theme Waste to Wealth. About 200 participants, including scientists, staff, teachers, schoolchildren, research scholars and volunteers, attended the programme. Shri B. T. Hareesh, Member Secretary, Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2026, proposed the vote of thanks.
