The Awareness Campaign on “Soil Health and Balanced Use of Fertilizers” under the ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ was organized at Ulloor Krishi Bhavan, Ulloor, on 02 June 2026. Dr. H. Kesava Kumar, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CTCRI, welcomed the gathering and gave a brief introduction to the awareness programme.
The programme was inaugurated by Smt. Sopna, Agricultural Field Officer, Ulloor Krishi Bhavan, who assured all possible facilitation to the farmers of the area through the Krishi Bhavan.
The technical session on the theme was handled by Dr. Jeena Mathew, Senior Scientist, Soil Science, Division of Crop Production, ICAR-CTCRI. She emphasized the importance of maintaining soil health for sustainable crop production. She also highlighted the need to avoid excessive and unbalanced use of chemical fertilizers and encouraged farmers to adopt soil-test-based fertilizer application. She also explained that the present scarcity and high cost of fertilizers make it necessary to use nutrients more efficiently. She stressed the need for partially substituting chemical fertilizers, especially nitrogen and potassium, with organic manures, customized fertilizers, biofertilizers, and nutrient-use-efficient planting materials.
Overall, the programme conveyed that balanced fertilizer use, organic inputs, and scientific crop management practices are essential to protect soil fertility, reduce cultivation cost, and ensure better crop yield in the long run.
A total of 25 farmers attended the programme. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Sreenath Vijay, Technician, ICAR-CTCRI.
