An awareness campaign on “Soil Health Management and Balanced Use of Fertilizers” was conducted on 27 May 2026 at Rajapathi, Eral Taluk, Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu by ICAR-CTCRI, ICAR SCAD KVK Thoothukudi and the Department of Agriculture, Alwarthirunagari Block. The programme focused on promoting sustainable nutrient management practices among farmers through scientific soil health management approaches.
The sessions highlighted the importance of soil test-based fertilizer application, the 4Rs of nutrient management, balanced fertilizer use, integrated nutrient management practices, and the use of alternative nutrient sources such as neem-coated urea and leaf-based manures. Experts also discussed the adverse effects of excessive fertilizer use on soil health, crop productivity and environmental sustainability.
The programme included interactive discussions where farmers clarified doubts and shared field experiences. A total of 42 farmers, including 18 women and 24 men, participated and benefited from the programme. The event concluded with a valedictory address by Mrs. Nalini, ATM, Alwarthirunagari Block, emphasizing that balanced fertilizer use enhances soil fertility and crop yield.
