Farmers’ Awareness Programme in connection with Khet Bachao Abhiyan was organized on 04 June 2026 at Kulathoor Panchayat, Parassala Block, Neyyattinkara taluk, Thiruvananthapuram, focusing on "Soil Health Management and Balanced Fertilizer Use." The event began with participant registration, followed by a welcoming address from Smt. Archana, AO, Kulathoor, Parassala, Government of Kerala at Parassala Block.
The inaugural address was delivered by Smt. S. Bindukumari, Agricultural Officer, Kulathoor Panchayat, who praised ICAR-CTCRI efforts for its commitment to organizing need-based extension programs that directly support farmers. Dr. Shirly Raichal Anil, Principal Scientist at ICAR-CTCRI, presided over the session, on Awareness campaign on Soil Health Management & Balanced Use of Fertilizers, wherein he elaborated importance of Soil Health Management & Balanced Use of Fertilizers. Dr. C. Mohan, Principal Scientist explained the importance of the organic manures, green manures and natural farming. Subsequently, planting materials of improved sweet potato tuber crop varieties were distributed to the participating farmers. A total of 27 farmers participated along with Krishi Bhavan grampanchayat officials from the region, effectively raising awareness about soil health management, promoting improved varieties from ICAR, and introducing innovative tuber crop production technologies.
Visited Government Vocational & Higher Secondary School (GVHSS) Kulathoor Panchayat and explained the importance of balanced fertilizer application and distributed sweet potato orange and purple fleshed sweet potato cuttings to school teachers and around 100 students. The MGMG team, consisting of Dr. C. Mohan - Principal Scientist, Dr. Shirly Raichal Anil, Principal Scientist, Dr. L.K. Bharathi, Principal Scientist, Mr. D. T. Rejin, Technical Officer, organised this programme.
