ICAR-CTCRI organized Live Web Telecast of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi & Scientist-Farmer Interface on Improved technologies of tuber crops

 

The ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (ICAR-CTCRI), Thiruvananthapuram, organized a Live Web Telecast of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi and a Scientist-Farmer Interface on Improved Technologies of Tuber Crops on 2nd August 2025 at the Millennium Hall of the Institute. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 120 attendees, including farmers from Thiruvananthapuram district and staff members of the institute.

Dr. G. Byju, Director, ICAR-CTCRI, delivered the Presidential Address, emphasizing the significance of the Lab to Land programme and the importance of exposure visits for farmers to remain updated on the latest varieties and technologies related to tropical tuber crops. He also highlighted the Institute’s active role in technology dissemination through various flagship developmental programmes such as Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP), Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) and North Eastern Hill (NEH) programme.

The interface meeting was inaugurated by Smt. Bindu S.R., Ward Councillor, Cheruvaikkal, who delivered the Inaugural Address. She underscored the crucial role of modern agricultural technologies in tackling challenges posed by climate change and related constraints.

Smt. Akila, Assistant Director of Agriculture (Incharge), Parassala, offered felicitations, appreciating the institute’s role in bridging the gap between scientific innovation and field-level adoption.The programme began with a warm welcome address by Dr. Sheela Immanuel, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CTCRI. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by            Dr. K. Sunilkumar, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CTCRI.

As part of the event, the Live Web Telecast of the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme was viewed by the participants. During the national-level programme, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, speaking from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, released an amount of ₹20,500 crore, benefiting over 9.7 crore farmers across the country. With this release, the total disbursement under PM-KISAN has crossed ₹3.90 lakh crore since its inception. The scheme provides ₹6,000 annually to eligible farmers, transferred in three equal instalments directly into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.

The event served as an important platform for sharing scientific knowledge, government support mechanisms, and enhancing farmer-scientist interactions to promote sustainable agricultural practices in tuber crop farming.
