Event Date
The National Reading Day was celebrated at ICAR-CTCRI on 19th June 2025 at 3.00 PM.. The event began with a warm welcome address delivered by Dr. V. S. Santhosh Mithra, Principal Scientist and Chairman (LAC) , who highlighted the significance of reading in nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.
The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. G. Suja, Director-in-Charge, ICAR-CTCRI. She emphasized the importance of fostering a reading culture among all age groups, especially in the scientific community, and encouraged staff and students to dedicate time to quality reading.
The Chief Guest, Dr. P. K. Sureshkumar, Former Deputy Librarian, University of Kerala, addressed the gathering and shared insightful perspectives on how reading habits have evolved in the digital age.
Ms. Archana Gopinath, CEO of Reading Room, served as the Guest of Honour. She spoke passionately about her journey in promoting reading among youth and the initiatives undertaken by Reading Room to make books more accessible and engaging in community settings.
Following the speeches, a Prize Distribution Ceremony was held to recognize winners of the reading-related competitions conducted as part of the National Reading Day celebrations.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Smt. B. S. Deepa, Technical Officer (Library), ICAR-CTCRI.
