As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2026, a “Swachhata Se Samriddhi” advocacy and awareness programme was organized at ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (ICAR-CTCRI), Thiruvananthapuram, on 28 September 2026. The programme focused on promoting sustainable habits based on the principles of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (3Rs), saying “No to Single-Use Plastics”, and inculcating awareness about the value of waste under the concept “Waste is Wealth.”
The programme highlighted various approaches for converting waste into useful resources, including Kabaad Se Jugaad (Waste to Utility), Kabaad Se Kala (Waste to Art), plastic recycling, and reuse and recycling drives. Awareness was also created on the importance of proper utilization, reuse and recycling of plastic and other waste materials to reduce waste generation and promote environmentally responsible practices.
Students, research scholars, trainees, staff members and volunteers actively participated in the programme. An awareness session on “Waste to Wealth” was organized to sensitise the participants on how discarded materials can be creatively reused and converted into useful products rather than being treated merely as waste.
As part of the programme, a competition on “Waste to Wealth” was also organized, in which participants creatively used discarded plastics and other waste materials to prepare useful and display items, demonstrating the potential for reuse, recycling and value addition of waste. The exhibits helped convey the message that waste, when properly segregated and creatively utilized, can become a valuable resource.
