ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute

An eco-friendly zero-waste celebration and awareness programme was organised at ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (ICAR-CTCRI), Thiruvananthapuram, on 26 September 2026, as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 Campaign.During the programme, a practical demonstration on zero-waste practices and vermicomposting was conducted for students, research scholars, project staff and volunteers. The participants were sensitised on the importance of converting biodegradable waste into useful compost and adopting environmentally sustainable waste-management practices.

The programme also included an interactive discussion on the challenges associated with cleanliness and waste management in local bodies, with particular reference to Amadi Nagar, Sreekariyam, where ICAR-CTCRI is located.Project and technical staff associated with the externally funded project “Development of eco-friendly technologies for quality cassava production and to safeguard soil health and environment,” explained about the eco-friendly technologies, soil health conservation and sustainable environmental practices to the participants.
