ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute

A training programme on **“Production and Processing of Tuber Crops”** was organised under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) project of ICAR-CTCRI on 24 September 2026 at the Community Hall, Kanthallur. The programme was inaugurated by Shri. Shivan Raj, President, Kanthallur Grama Panchayath, and presided over by Ms. Ambili Praveen, Education & Health Standing Committee Chairperson. Dr. M. S. Sajeev briefed the participants on the TSP initiatives of ICAR-CTCRI, while Dr. Manas R. Sahoo, Head, Crop Improvement, delivered the felicitation address. Agricultural Officers from Marayoor and Kanthallur and ward members of the Panchayath also attended the programme.

The technical sessions covered **tuber crop production technology, value addition, entrepreneurship development and minisett technology**, along with an awareness session on contingency planning to manage El Niño risks. Planting materials of sweet potato, cassava and coleus, along with vegetable seedlings, were distributed to the participants. Tribal students from three nearby schools were also provided planting materials and seedlings to establish nutrient gardens with the support of MSSRF, Wayanad. The programme was coordinated by MSSRF, Idukki cluster, and was attended by more than 115 participants from Kanthallur and Marayoor areas.
